Renowned singer Asim Azhar and actress Merub Ali have announced the end of their engagement, requesting privacy and understanding from fans as they navigate what they describe as a mutual and respectful decision.
In a late-night Instagram story on Wednesday, the Jo Tu Na Mila singer shared that after “a great deal of thought and reflection,” the couple has decided to part ways.
“Merub and I have chosen to move forward on separate paths peacefully and mutually,” the singer wrote. “While we shared meaningful moments and genuinely hoped for a future together, life sometimes takes its own course.”
The statement further added: “We have the utmost respect for each other and the families involved, and always will. We kindly ask for your understanding and privacy during this time, and hope this is met with the same grace with which it is being shared.”
The announcement comes more than two years after the couple got engaged in March 2022. Their engagement was celebrated in an intimate ceremony attended by close family members, and the news was shared via coordinated Instagram posts.
At the time, both Asim and Merub posted identical images from the event — one showed the singer in a traditional white shalwar kameez looking towards Merub, who held a small gift in her hands. In another, Merub, clad in a traditional long shirt and trousers, was seen placing a ring on Asim’s finger.
While the couple had maintained a relatively low profile regarding their personal relationship, they were often seen together at events and had publicly supported each other’s professional ventures.
The news of their separation has drawn an outpouring of reactions on social media, with fans expressing both sadness and support.
