Salman Khan has shared an unusual story from his younger days, saying he often felt he was not alone in his bedroom at the Khan family’s longtime home in Bandra, Mumbai.
The actor recounted the experience during the season premiere of ‘Koffee With Karan Season 9’, where host Karan Johar reminisced about visiting Salman at home while he was shooting for ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai’ in 1998.
During the conversation, Karan recalled arriving on the sets of ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai’ in 1998, when Salman was working the 2pm-to-10pm shift. Karan said he arrived at around 2pm and that, at about 9pm, Salman invited him to come home.
Karan was surprised by the modest size of Salman’s bedroom at Galaxy Apartments, despite the actor’s stardom. The room contained just a bed and a single cupboard, while Salman lived in the flat with his parents, Salim Khan and Salma Khan, and his brothers Arbaaz and Sohail.
Karan also recalled an awkward moment when Salman changed into yellow shorts after they entered the room, leaving the filmmaker conscious of where he was looking.
The conversation then took an unexpected turn when Salman described the unexplained experiences he associated with the bedroom.
Salman Khan describes strange experiences
Salman said he never felt entirely alone in the room because he sensed something he could hear but had never seen.
“I never stayed alone in that room. I always stayed there with somebody whom I had never seen, only heard,” the actor recalled.
He described several incidents that he said occurred around the room. According to Salman, the lights would flicker whenever he came out, cupboards appeared to open on their own, and the music system would switch on without anyone touching it.
The actor also said he could sense someone outside the bathroom, seemingly moving around and fiddling with the cupboards.
“That’s how I figured out there was somebody or something there,” Salman said, explaining how the repeated experiences led him to believe that an unseen presence might be in the room.
Actor says he did not consider room haunted
When Karan asked whether he believed the bedroom was haunted, Salman avoided using that description. Instead, he said he felt a presence without ever seeing anything that could explain it.
“Not haunting… but a presence was felt,” Salman said.
He added that playing music seemed to make him feel the presence, so he would put on music and leave the room. Salman also recalled that friends playing billiards outside the bedroom could hear sounds suggesting that someone was inside.
Despite these unusual experiences, the actor said he was not frightened because the presence had never harmed him.
“No, because it didn’t do anything,” he said, before adding a humorous request: “My only request to it was: ‘If you are a really beautiful woman, then reveal yourself to me.’”
Salman did not offer an explanation for the flickering lights, moving cupboards or music system, and his account remains a personal recollection of incidents he said he could not explain.
Galaxy Apartments in Bandra West, Mumbai, has been the Khan family’s home for decades and remains one of Bollywood’s best-known celebrity addresses. Fans frequently gather outside the building hoping to catch a glimpse of Salman.
The residence also made headlines following a security incident on April 14, 2024, when two men riding a motorcycle fired shots outside the building while Salman was reportedly at home.
Mumbai Police investigated the shooting and alleged links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
