Google has launched Gemini 4 Argon, a new artificial intelligence model that the company describes as its most powerful model yet.
Developed by Google parent Alphabet, Argon is designed to handle tasks ranging from coding and research to writing and engineering. Google says the model has a particular focus on defensive cybersecurity.
Argon targets cybersecurity
Gemini 4 Argon is initially being made available to a select group of Google’s cybersecurity partners through its Fairwind Program, the company’s security initiative.
Google says the model was specifically trained for defensive cyber operations and can autonomously identify, validate and patch critical software vulnerabilities.
The limited rollout means Argon is not yet broadly available to consumers or developers.
Built for coding and complex tasks
Google also says Argon is capable of handling demanding coding and engineering tasks.
According to the company, Google employees have already been using the model for daily work, including debugging software and carrying out codebase migrations.
The model is also designed to process visual information, including data presented in charts and lengthy videos.
Google said Argon is built to maintain deep reasoning across complex, long-running workflows and is already changing how its teams work and develop software.
Google claims benchmark lead
The launch comes as major AI companies continue competing to develop increasingly capable models.
Google claims Gemini 4 Argon outperformed OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Fable and Opus models across a range of benchmarks.
The company also cited AI benchmarking firm Vals, which currently places Argon at the top of its model index.
As with other AI benchmark comparisons, the results reflect Google’s cited testing and may vary depending on the benchmarks, evaluation methods and tasks used.
Google gains ground in AI race
Google’s latest model comes after a period in which the company faced criticism over its position in the rapidly developing AI market.
The company has since expanded the Gemini ecosystem and reported strong growth for its consumer AI products.
