Gunmen opened fire on a traffic police vehicle in the Wazirabad area of Tank, killing three police personnel and injuring two civilians, according to the reports. The attackers also fled with the police vehicle and weapons.
The incident has prompted condemnation from Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who expressed grief over the deaths and offered condolences to the families of the martyred officials.
According to initial reports, armed men opened fire on a traffic police vehicle in Wazirabad, leaving three police personnel dead and two civilians injured.
The attackers reportedly took the traffic police vehicle and weapons with them after the firing. The injured were shifted to hospital for medical treatment.
Two of the martyred officials were identified as Gul Amin and Saleem Shah Qureshi, while the identity of the third officer had not been confirmed.
The reports state that three police personnel were martyred, while the injured officials were taken to hospital for treatment. The attackers also made off with the traffic police vehicle and weapons.
Mohsin Naqvi condemns attack
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the firing incident and expressed grief over the martyrdom of three police officials.
Naqvi extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the martyred personnel and said the sacrifices of security officials in the fight against terrorism would not go in vain.
“We salute the sacrifice of the martyred officials,” Naqvi said, adding that the government stood with the bereaved families during their hour of grief.
Three injured in separate Chilas firing
In a separate incident in Gilgit-Baltistan, a patrolling vehicle of the GB Scouts came under fire near Bashidas Zero Point close to Sher Nala in Chilas.
Police said three officials were injured after gunmen fired from a hillside. The injured included two SSU police officials and one GB Scouts soldier.
The injured personnel were initially taken to Bashidas FWO Hospital, where they received first aid. They were subsequently shifted to RHQ Hospital Chilas for further medical treatment.
Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain took strict notice of the firing and directed authorities to take vigorous action to arrest those involved.
The chief minister also ordered an immediate, comprehensive and impartial investigation into the incident and directed authorities to strengthen search operations in Bashidas, Sher Nala and adjoining areas. He sought a report from the Inspector General of Gilgit-Baltistan Police regarding the investigation and efforts to arrest those responsible.
