The water level at Tarbela Dam is continuing to fall due to a lack of rainfall, with inflows remaining significantly lower than the amount of water being released from the reservoir.
According to the dam administration, the current water level stands at 1,527.19 feet, compared with the dam’s dead level of 1,402 feet and maximum capacity level of 1,550 feet.
An official statement said water is currently flowing into Tarbela Dam at a rate of 65,000 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 100,000 cusecs.
The gap between inflow and outflow is contributing to the continued decline in the reservoir’s water level amid insufficient rainfall.
17 power units operational
The dam administration said 17 power generation units are currently operational at Tarbela.
Electricity generation is currently recorded at 1,270 megawatts, significantly below the dam’s total generation capacity of 4,888 megawatts.
The reduced generation comes as water levels continue to be affected by the lack of rainfall and the higher volume of water being released from the reservoir.
