Bollywood icon Sanjay Dutt has candidly discussed his decade-long struggle with substance addiction. In an exclusive interview with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, the Munna Bhai M.B.B.S star shared the personal reasons behind his dark past.
Dutt admitted that his addiction began as a way to appear confident, particularly around women. He said:
“I was very shy, especially with women, so I started it to look cool. You do it and you become a cooler guy with the ladies, you talk to them.”
The actor’s initial attempts to impress eventually spiraled into a serious dependency that controlled much of his life.
A decade in lockdown
Reflecting on the toll of his addiction, Dutt revealed how it consumed ten years of his life, keeping him away from professional work and isolating him in his room or bathroom. He said:
“Ten years of my life I was in my room, or in the bathroom, and not interested in shoots. But this is what life is, and that’s how everything changed.”
Despite personal struggles, Dutt has continued his acting career. His latest film, Baaghi 4, starred Tiger Shroff, Harnaaz Sandhu, and Sonam Bajwa. He is currently preparing for his next project, Dhurandar, as he works to move forward professionally and personally.
