Shashi Tharoor has raised concerns about the alleged propaganda in Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar, questioning how Pakistani audiences might respond to the film’s portrayal of their country.
The Congress MP shared his reaction to Aditya Dhar’s directorial venture on his official YouTube channel on Monday, October 19.
Discussing criticism that the film promotes propaganda, Tharoor said its narrative contained elements that could affect perceptions between Indians and Pakistanis.
“There is a lot of propaganda stuff built into it obviously,” he said, adding that he understood concerns about the film potentially creating tensions between the two countries.
Tharoor also questioned how Pakistanis would interpret its portrayal of their country.
“I don’t know how Pakistanis will react if they see this. Some of the lines, I think Pakistanis will laugh. Some of the other things, I think Pakistanis will realise how much wrong has been done in their name,” he said.
Tharoor praises the film’s cinematic experience
Despite his concerns about the narrative, Tharoor praised the franchise’s filmmaking, including its performances, production design and direction.
Describing the experience of watching both parts, he said the films were vividly made and capable of leaving a strong impression on viewers.
“Competent acting, superb sort of sets, design, and direction. At the end of 8 hours, you feel you have been through a major cinematic experience,” he said.
Star-studded cast and box-office performance
Dhurandhar features Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi and other actors.
The franchise has reportedly earned more than ₹3,100 crore worldwide, according to the source report.
