The Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) has stepped up efforts to convene an all-parties conference (APC), deciding to contact Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Awami National Party (ANP), Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and other political groups after its contacts with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The alliance has already invited the leadership of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) to the proposed APC and has also contacted the leadership of the Awaam Pakistan Party.
Opposition leaders are expected to meet former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as part of the ongoing consultations.
Shehbaz-Achakzai meeting on the horizon
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader Mahmood Achakzai will meet after the prime minister returns to Pakistan. Government sources said the government will contact Achakzai to finalise the schedule.
The proposed meeting will cover a wide range of political issues, parliamentary affairs and the political situation.
Achakzai is expected to stress the supremacy of the Constitution and the law, as well as the need to strengthen Parliament.
