Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 has reportedly recorded a 10% week-on-week increase in sales in South Korea following Apple’s launch of the iPhone Duo, according to Korean media reports.
The increase comes despite expectations that Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market could put pressure on Samsung’s latest foldable.
Industry analysts cited in the report suggested that some consumers who had been waiting to see Apple’s offering may have decided to purchase the Galaxy Z Fold 8 instead.
Price and availability may have influenced buyers
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at 2.28 million won, or around $1,550, in South Korea, while the iPhone Duo is priced at about 3.29 million won, or approximately $2,390, according to the report.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also thinner and lighter than Apple’s foldable, potentially giving Samsung an advantage among buyers comparing the physical specifications of the two devices.
Another factor is availability. Samsung’s foldable is already on sale in South Korea, while the iPhone Duo is scheduled to launch in the country on October 16.
Samsung could use promotions to attract buyers
The reported sales increase suggests that some consumers may be choosing Samsung’s device rather than waiting for Apple’s foldable to become available.
Samsung could also use promotional offers to attract customers who are comparing the two devices or do not want to wait for Apple’s release, according to the report.
The sales figures cited in the report are specific to South Korea and represent a week-on-week change rather than evidence of a broader global trend.
