Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a green policing initiative in the federal capital, providing Islamabad Police with 50 electric vehicles as part of efforts to modernise policing and promote environmentally friendly law enforcement.
During a ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday, the prime minister handed over the keys of the electric vehicles to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
Shehbaz said protecting the lives and property of citizens remained the government’s top priority and assured that Islamabad Police would be provided with the resources needed to meet modern policing requirements.
He said the force was being equipped with modern technology and necessary resources to provide a safer environment to residents of the capital.
PM stresses modern, green policing
The prime minister praised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for efforts to modernise Islamabad Police and said the force should serve as a role model for other cities across the country.
Shehbaz said the electric vehicles would help promote green and environmentally friendly policing in the federal capital.
“Modern technology will further improve police performance and services provided to citizens,” he said.
Capital Patrol force unveiled
During the ceremony, IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi briefed the prime minister on the newly established Capital Patrol force, which has been created to strengthen security and patrolling across Islamabad.
According to the briefing, the force has been established under the prime minister’s vision of a safe, smart and green capital and will comprise 200 police personnel.
Each unit will include one male and one female police officer, while motorcycle-riding personnel will also be deployed to ensure rapid response and effective patrolling in different areas.
The personnel will be equipped with body cameras aimed at improving transparency, monitoring and accountability during policing operations.
Electric vehicles expected to cut costs
Officials told the prime minister that the 50 electric vehicles provided to Capital Patrol would significantly reduce fuel expenditure.
According to the briefing, the vehicles are expected to save approximately Rs34 million per month in fuel costs.
Officials further said the cost of an individual vehicle would be recovered through fuel savings in around 10.5 months.
Shehbaz appreciated Islamabad Police’s measures to introduce modern technology, promote green policing and improve public safety. He directed the relevant authorities to take all necessary steps to further strengthen the modern policing system in the federal capital.
Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry and other senior officials also attended the ceremony.
