Pakistan has rejected what it described as baseless Indian claims regarding occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that India’s unilateral actions and illegal occupation cannot change the disputed status of the region.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said the Kashmir dispute must be resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
The spokesperson said Jammu and Kashmir is one of the oldest disputes on the agenda of the UN Security Council and maintained that its status cannot be changed through unilateral measures.
Pakistan said any decision on Kashmir must reflect the relevant UN resolutions as well as the will of the Kashmiri people.
The Foreign Office reiterated its call for a free and impartial plebiscite, to be conducted under the relevant UN resolutions and supervised by the United Nations.
UN maps show disputed status of Kashmir
The spokesperson pointed to official United Nations maps, saying they continue to show Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory.
According to the Foreign Office, the UN’s official maps accurately represent the current legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan rejected India’s so-called official maps and unilateral claims regarding autonomy, saying such actions have no legal status and cannot alter the internationally recognised disputed nature of the territory.
Call for end to rights violations
The Foreign Office also called on the international community to take notice of and help stop human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
Pakistan urged India to immediately halt what it described as human rights violations in the region.
The spokesperson also called on India to fulfil its commitments regarding the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination.
Pakistan maintained that the Kashmiri people should be allowed to exercise their right to self-determination in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.
The Foreign Office reiterated that the issue must ultimately be addressed through a UN-backed process that reflects the aspirations and will of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
