Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi visited the family of five-year-old Ayat Noor, who was raped and murdered in Haripur, and offered condolences to her grieving family.
The chief minister presented the family with a cheque of Rs10 million and announced that a Child Protection Bill would be named after Ayat Noor. He also said Swat Chowk would be renamed after the young victim.
During his visit to the family’s home, Chief Minister Afridi met Ayat Noor’s father and offered prayer for the deceased child.
Local MPA and Provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan were also present on the occasion. The chief minister expressed his condolences to Ayat Noor’s father and assured the family that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shared their grief.
“She was not just your daughter, but our daughter too,” Afridi said, expressing his solidarity with the bereaved family. The CM became emotional during the meeting, hugged Ayat Noor’s father and consoled him.
Rs10m cheque presented to family
Afridi presented a cheque worth Rs10 million to Ayat Noor’s family as financial assistance. He assured the family of the government’s full support and said there would be no negligence in pursuing the case or supporting them.
The chief minister also condemned the brutality against the child, saying she had been treated “like an animal” and that those responsible would be made an example of.
CM vows severe punishment for accused
Afridi said the people involved in the crime would be severely punished and vowed that the perpetrators would be dealt with in a manner that would make others think repeatedly before committing a similar crime.
“I promise that the people involved will be severely punished,” the chief minister said.
He also appealed to the courts not to provide relief to those accused in the case.
Afridi questioned the effectiveness of the administration and police if children could not remain safe in their presence.
“If the children are not safe in the presence of the administration and the police, then the offices should be locked,” he said.
Child Protection Bill to be named after Ayat Noor
The chief minister announced that the provincial government would name its Child Protection Bill after Ayat Noor.
He also announced that Swat Chowk would be named after the five-year-old girl as a tribute to her.
The announcements were made during the emotional meeting with Ayat Noor’s father, with Afridi reiterating the government’s commitment to protecting children and ensuring accountability.
Ayat Noor’s father calls for strict punishment
Ayat Noor’s father thanked the chief minister, the government and all those who had stood by his family following the tragedy.
“I thank everyone. Everyone was standing with me,” he said.
He urged authorities to ensure the harshest possible punishment for those responsible for his daughter’s death.
His request was that the actual culprit responsible for the killing of his innocent daughter be hanged publicly.
