Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone Ultra, which is expected to become the company’s first foldable iPhone, has surfaced in striking red renders online.
However, the apparent color leak has reportedly turned out to be false, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman disputing claims that Apple plans to launch its foldable in a red finish.
Red iPhone Ultra renders spark speculation
Rumours surrounding Apple’s first foldable have so far suggested that the device could launch in classic black and white finishes, with some reports even claiming that Apple may offer only a white version.
That changed when well-known leaker Evan Blass shared renders appearing to show the iPhone Ultra in a bold red color.
Blass later shared additional renders showing the foldable in three shades, prompting speculation that Apple could introduce a new hero color for its first foldable.
However, closer examination of the images raised questions about their authenticity.
The battery indicator shown in the renders reportedly does not match the design used in iOS 27, instead resembling the older iOS 26 interface.
Mark Gurman reportedly debunks red color
The inconsistencies led to speculation that the renders could have been AI-generated or otherwise fabricated.
Mark Gurman subsequently disputed the claims, saying the foldable iPhone would not be offered in red or green.
Gurman also indicated that the renders shared by Blass were actually associated with Xiaomi, rather than Apple’s upcoming foldable.
The red device appears to be linked to the Xiaomi 18 Fold, another passport-style foldable that has surfaced in recent reports.
Xiaomi 18 Fold adds to the confusion
The Xiaomi foldable reportedly has a design similar to the rumored iPhone Ultra, making it easier for renders of the two devices to be confused.
Xiaomi has confirmed that its new foldable is scheduled to launch in September and is expected to use the company’s XRING 03 processor.
While Apple may not introduce a red iPhone Ultra, the renders have generated plenty of interest online, with many users expressing enthusiasm for the color.
Red has previously been used across Apple’s iPhone lineup, including the iPhone 14 and third-generation iPhone SE, which were among the company’s last models available in a bright red finish.
iPhone Ultra launch is approaching
Apple has officially announced its next major launch event for September 9, when the company is expected to unveil its upcoming iPhone lineup.
The event could finally reveal Apple’s first foldable iPhone, including its official design, specifications and available colors.
Until then, the rumored red finish remains unconfirmed and, based on the latest reports, unlikely to make it to Apple’s foldable lineup.
