The federal government has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi to maintain law and order and avert any possible unrest.
The Punjab Home Department had requested the Interior Ministry to deploy the army in the city, according to a notification.
According to the notification, the federal government has approved the deployment of the army in Rawalpindi under Article 245 of the Constitution.
The approval comes following a request from the Punjab Home Department to the Interior Ministry for military assistance to maintain law and order in the city.
Three army companies to be deployed
The notification states that three companies of the Pakistan Army will be deployed in Rawalpindi. The army will assist the Rawalpindi district administration with security-related duties, according to the official notification.
The notification said the Pakistan Army is being deployed to avoid any possible unrest in Rawalpindi.
The military personnel will support the district administration in maintaining security and ensuring law and order during the deployment.
