President Asif Ali Zardari has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of the Philippines on the occasion of their National Independence Day, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
In a message read out by Presidential Spokesperson Murtaza Solangi at a special ceremony, the President highlighted the historical significance of the Philippines’ independence declared in 1898, calling it a landmark moment that reflected the “indomitable spirit and resilience of the Filipino nation.”
He stated that Pakistan deeply values its longstanding friendship with the Philippines, noting that both countries are preparing to commemorate 77 years of diplomatic relations later this year. The President emphasized that the relationship is anchored in mutual respect, goodwill, and shared cooperation in multilateral platforms, including the United Nations and ASEAN.
Focus on Trade, Investment and Sectoral Cooperation
President Zardari underscored the untapped potential in bilateral economic engagement, highlighting opportunities in agriculture, food security, healthcare, defence production, education, information technology, and renewable energy. He called for stronger business-to-business linkages and joint ventures to unlock new avenues of cooperation.
He also appreciated the Philippines for its hospitality towards the Pakistani diaspora, describing them as a “living bridge of friendship” between the two nations.
Commitment to Global Challenges
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and sustainable development, the President stressed the importance of collective action on climate change and other global challenges.
Concluding his message, he extended best wishes for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of the Filipino people, expressing hope that bilateral relations would continue to deepen in the coming years.
“May the friendship between Pakistan and the Philippines flourish and grow stronger with each passing year,” the President said.
