ISLAMABAD (DI NEWS) : The Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad celebrated the Day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities with a reception highlighting Portugal’s rich cultural heritage, global outlook, and growing friendship with Pakistan.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Paulo Guedes Domingues paid tribute to renowned Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, describing him as a symbol of Portugal’s spirit of discovery, openness, and intercultural dialogue. The Ambassador also acknowledged the important role played by Portuguese communities abroad in strengthening Portugal’s international presence.
Reflecting on Portugal-Pakistan relations, Ambassador Domingues noted the steady expansion of cooperation in political, economic, educational, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges. He emphasized the valuable contribution of Portuguese citizens of Pakistani origin, who serve as a living bridge between the two countries.
The Ambassador also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Portugal’s Honorary Consuls in Pakistan, Fakir S. Ayazuddin (Karachi) and Iftikhar Firoz (Lahore), for promoting bilateral engagement and strengthening ties with Pakistani institutions and businesses.
Concluding the celebration, Ambassador Domingues reaffirmed Portugal’s commitment to further deepening cooperation with Pakistan and praised the enduring friendship between the two nations, founded on mutual respect, dialogue, and understanding.
