The government has decided to continue its austerity and energy-saving measures, with a committee led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recommending that the existing restrictions remain in place until June 30.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Committee on Austerity Measures held in Islamabad, where officials reviewed the implementation of current policies and considered requests for exemptions from various ministries and divisions.
The meeting focused on evaluating exemption requests submitted by different ministries and government divisions seeking relief from the ongoing austerity measures.
After reviewing the proposals, the committee recommended extending the current austerity framework and energy conservation initiatives through June 30 as part of the government’s broader efforts to manage resources efficiently.
Energy-saving measures to continue
The government decided to maintain the existing energy-saving measures that were introduced to reduce consumption and support national conservation efforts.

The extension means that various restrictions and guidelines already in place will continue to be implemented across government departments and other sectors covered under the policy.
Grocery stores allowed to operate
As part of the updated arrangements, it was decided that kiryana and grocery stores will be allowed to remain open until 10 pm.
The move is aimed at ensuring public convenience while continuing the broader energy conservation strategy under the government’s austerity plan.
Foreign Office consular services
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ consular services will remain available on Fridays.
The decision is expected to facilitate citizens requiring consular assistance and ensure uninterrupted access to essential services despite the continuation of austerity measures.
The recommendation to extend austerity measures until June 30 signals the government’s commitment to continuing its resource management and energy-saving strategy.
Officials said the committee would continue monitoring the implementation of the measures while reviewing operational requirements across ministries and divisions.
