Heightened security ahead of US-Iran talks has prompted authorities to shut down all offices and educational institutions in the capital’s Red Zone, with employees directed to work remotely for the day.
According to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division, all ministries, divisions, and government offices located in Islamabad’s Red Zone will remain closed on April 20.
Employees have been instructed to work from home, while also remaining on alert. The notification emphasized that officers and staff must be ready to report to their offices at short notice if required.
Authorities clarified that if the situation demands, all employees can be immediately called back to the workplace.
Officials say the measures are precautionary, aimed at ensuring safety in sensitive government areas during the high-level diplomatic engagement.
Schools also closed in Red Zone
In a parallel move, the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration ordered the closure of all schools and offices falling within the Red Zone on April 20.
The Islamabad deputy commissioner confirmed that institutions have been directed to adopt work-from-home arrangements where possible.
Private schools to reopen
Authorities have decided to reopen private schools in Islamabad following consultations with school administrations.
According to Abdul Waheed Khan, the secretary of the Private Schools Association, institutions located in the extended Red Zone or those equipped with online learning systems may continue using remote options.
He added that the association remains in constant contact with district authorities and any changes in the law and order situation will be communicated immediately.
Officials also urged the public not to pay attention to rumors and rely only on verified information.
Election Commission postpones hearings
while, the Election Commission of Pakistan has also adjusted its schedule in line with the security situation. All cases scheduled for hearing today have been de-listed, with new dates to be announced later.
The sweeping closures underline the seriousness of the security environment in Islamabad’s most sensitive zone.
