A Levies officer was martyred after armed men attacked a checkpost near the Qila Abdullah cemetery on Wednesday, triggering widespread anger among local tribes.
Residents later blocked the Quetta–Chaman highway in protest as authorities began an inquiry into the deadly assault.
According to Levies sources, the incident unfolded when armed men targeted a Levies checkpost near the Qila Abdullah cemetery. Levies officer Saadullah was shot during the assault and embraced martyrdom on the spot.
Officials said the attack occurred as Levies personnel were attempting to prevent a theft in the area. The assailants, belonging to the Sardar Faqir Muhammad dacoit group, fired a rocket launcher and other weapons at the checkpost.
Local tribes protest, block highway
Following the deadly attack, local tribes took to the streets in strong protest. Demonstrators blocked the Quetta–Chaman highway, disrupting traffic and demanding immediate action against the attackers.
In their anger, protesters also set fire to a vehicle left behind by the dacoits at the crime scene. The tense situation prompted additional security deployment as investigators collected evidence.
