The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT) has issued a comprehensive advisory for parents, urging them to guide their children towards the safe, responsible, and positive use of social media.
The advisory comes amid growing concerns over children’s exposure to harmful content, privacy threats, and cyberbullying in the digital space.
According to the National CERT, it is vital for parents to train their children on how to navigate the digital world responsibly. “Children should be educated about the importance of protecting and identifying personal information online,” the advisory states.
Parents have been urged to enhance the privacy settings on their children’s social media accounts and to use parental control software to help monitor and restrict unsafe activities. Tools such as Google Family Link, Microsoft Family Safety, Kaspersky Safe Kids, and others have been recommended for effective digital supervision.
The advisory further emphasizes that parents should regularly review their children’s social media accounts, monitor their friends list, and stay informed about their daily online activities. These proactive measures, it says, are essential to maintaining a safe digital environment.
National CERT also advised that parents take clear steps to limit screen time and online engagement, ensuring that children are not only protected but also encouraged to use social media in a balanced and constructive way.
