An Indian Air Force team has arrived in Pampore town of Pulwama district to collect and remove debris of an aircraft reportedly shot down by Pakistan, according to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The wreckage is being transferred with the help of bulldozers as authorities secure the crash site.
The BBC reports that an additional Indian Air Force team is present at the location to examine the debris.
BBC correspondent Riaz Masroor, who is present in Pampore, reported that local residents described hearing a loud explosion amid the sounds of jet bombers, after which aircraft debris fell across different areas of the town.
According to the report, Indian forces have cordoned off the crash site by erecting barriers. Officials have not yet confirmed what type of aircraft it was or which country it belonged to.
The BBC notes that local residents say this location is only a short distance from the site where more than 40 Indian forces personnel were killed in a suicide attack in 2019, an incident that significantly escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
