Pakistan’s ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, announced that the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is set to be completed by May 2025, with significant progress also made on the Rashakai SEZ. Spanning 1,530 acres in Thatta, Sindh, Dhabeji SEZ benefits from proximity to Port Qasim, ensuring efficient trade logistics. A Chinese delegation has shown interest in establishing a $1 billion medical city there. Hashmi highlighted China’s $26 billion CPEC investment, which added 8,800MW to the grid and created 250,000 jobs, countering perceptions of slowed progress. He emphasized enhanced exports in 21 sectors and collaboration with China on security concerns, including terrorism linked to Afghanistan.
