The China-Pakistan Information Corridor has been inaugurated in Islamabad under CPEC 2.0, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties through media cooperation, information exchange and digital platforms.
Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said the initiative would connect the hearts and minds of people in both countries, describing it as a “corridor of truth” designed to counter misleading narratives through facts and promote greater understanding between the two nations.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Atta Tarar said Pakistan-China friendship had withstood every test and remained a unique example of an “iron-clad” brotherhood.
He said the completion of 75 years of diplomatic relations marked a significant milestone in the two countries’ historic relationship. The minister added that cooperation through media, information exchange and digital platforms would further strengthen bilateral ties.
“The first phase connected our lands; the next phase will connect our minds,” Tarar said, explaining that the Information Corridor would serve as a bridge between the people of Pakistan and China.
He also described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and a flagship project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
CPEC 2.0 to create new opportunities
The information minister said CPEC had opened new avenues for development through energy projects, motorways and the development of Gwadar port.
He added that the next phase of cooperation under CPEC 2.0 was creating opportunities for development, employment, innovation and green growth.
According to Tarar, the Information Corridor would complement these initiatives by expanding communication and promoting stronger people-to-people connections between the two countries.
The initiative also includes a dedicated fact-checking mechanism to monitor misleading narratives and counter them with concrete facts, according to the information shared at the ceremony.
Chinese ambassador calls corridor joint achievement
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong described the Information Corridor as the outcome of the firm commitment and joint efforts of both countries.
He said the initiative had moved from a concept to reality, with media organisations and think tanks from Pakistan and China playing a significant role in its establishment.
The ambassador emphasised that a key responsibility of media and communication was to share stories that brought people closer together.
“Pakistan-China friendship is higher than the mountains and deeper than the oceans,” Jiang said, reaffirming the strength of the longstanding relationship.
He also recalled having the opportunity to be part of several significant and positive moments in Pakistan-China relations during his three years in Pakistan.
Chinese official recalls Pakistan’s support
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who attended the ceremony as a special guest, also paid tribute to the friendship between the two countries.
The spokesperson said the Chinese people would never forget Pakistan’s substantial assistance following the devastating magnitude-7.9 earthquake in China in 2008.
Chinese officials and Pakistani leaders described the two nations as “iron brothers”, emphasising that their relationship had continued to grow stronger over time.
The inauguration of the China-Pakistan Information Corridor marks another step in efforts to expand bilateral cooperation beyond infrastructure and economic development, with greater emphasis on media collaboration, digital communication and closer ties between the people of both countries.
