ISLAMABAD (ID NEWS) : The core committee of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised critical questions about the events surrounding the violent protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
Chaired by Barrister Gohar, the committee questioned why workers were diverted to D-Chowk instead of Sangjani, where the protest was initially planned. The committee demanded accountability, asking who instigated the clash and why founder Imran Khan’s directive for peaceful negotiations was ignored.
“Who obstructed the negotiations when the PTI founder allowed them, and pushed the protest towards D-Chowk without coming forward themselves?” the committee inquired, highlighting the need to identify those responsible for escalating tensions.
Members of the core committee also criticized the central leadership’s absence during the D-Chowk protest. They expressed concerns about the lack of coordination and transparency in decision-making, with some members expressing reservations about not being taken into confidence on critical issues. The senior leadership justified the demand to take the party leadres into confidence in future decision-making.
The committee instructed that solid evidence be compiled regarding alleged worker deaths and advised against making statements about deaths based on assumptions. The committee also recommended self-accountability within the party alongside efforts to hold the government accountable for alleged atrocities against PTI workers.
Suggestions were also made to prepare a white paper highlighting the failures of those who abandoned the party workers during the protest. Senior leadership acknowledged the need for better coordination and agreed to involve the committee in future decision-making.
