Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned an emergency meeting of the federal cabinet today to discuss the current political situation, particularly the aftermath of the PTI-led protests that have escalated tensions across the capital.
Sources privy to the development said that the meeting will focus on the unfolding developments related to the protest and the impact it has had on the country’s security and governance.
The cabinet is expected to review the situation in detail and make important decisions regarding responding to the ongoing unrest.
The huddle follows a series of violent incidents during the PTI’s protest march in Islamabad, which saw clashes between law enforcement agencies and protesters.
PM Shehbaz had previously expressed his deep sorrow and regret over the martyrdom of Rangers personnel, who lost their lives in an attack by miscreants during the protests.
Speaking on the matter, the premier condemned the violence, stating that Pakistan could not afford bloodshed and chaos.
He reiterated that violent acts were completely unacceptable and pledged that such behavior would not be tolerated.
PM also commended the law enforcement agencies for showing restraint in the face of violence and affirmed that the nation stands united in honouring the sacrifices of the Rangers and police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
