A major operation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore has uncovered a network allegedly involved in stealing and selling citizens’ sensitive information through a fake website created in the name of NADRA.
Two suspects have been arrested, while raids are underway to trace and apprehend other members of the network.
According to the NCCIA, the suspects created a fraudulent website and online portal using a name similar to NADRA to make it appear legitimate. The fake platform was allegedly used to obtain sensitive personal information belonging to citizens without authorisation.
Investigators said the network illegally collected and sold data of more than 10 million citizens, raising serious concerns over the misuse and protection of personal information.
Two suspects arrested in Lahore
The cybercrime operation led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the data theft network.
The NCCIA said further raids are being conducted in Lahore and other locations to identify and arrest additional suspects connected with the operation.
The investigation is continuing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the network and its activities.
Fake website and links shut down
As part of the operation, the NCCIA closed the fraudulent website along with all of its associated links.
The action prevents further access to the fake NADRA-style portal and disrupts the network’s alleged mechanism for collecting citizens’ information.
