Leading Pakistani actor Naumaan Ijaz has opened up about his cancer diagnosis and recovery, revealing how the daily recitation of Surah Rehman became an important part of his journey.
During a recent podcast appearance, Noman recalled being diagnosed with cancer in June 2024.
The actor said he had a tumour near his ear as well as lymphoma in his stomach.
Recalling the day he received the diagnosis, Noman said he prayed to Allah and asked for mercy.
“I had a tumour near my ear and also lymphoma in my stomach. I was diagnosed with cancer in June 2024,” he said.
He added that he had never wanted to cause harm to others and prayed that Allah would have mercy on him.
Naumaan Ijaz feared his family would suffer
The actor said the possibility of undergoing hospital visits, chemotherapy and other difficulties worried him, particularly because of the impact the illness could have on his family.
Noman said he prayed that if his purpose in life had already been fulfilled, Allah should take his life quickly rather than make his family go through the pain of his illness.
He also revealed that he began reciting various verses and prayers before going to sleep because he feared he might not wake up the following morning.
How Surah Rehman became part of his routine
According to Noman, one of his friends, Gohar Butt, advised him to start reciting Surah Rehman after his diagnosis.
“Since then, I have been reciting Surah Rehman daily,” he said.
The actor said he believes the recitation played an important role in his recovery.
“Surah Rehman played a very important role in saving me,” Noman said.
He explained that the tumour near his ear was surgically removed, while the lymphoma in his stomach was no longer visible in subsequent scans.
Noman said doctors had initially planned to begin his chemotherapy in July, making the later scan results a surprise for him.
“Allah has been very kind to me,” he said.

Naumaan Ijaz is one of Pakistan’s prominent television actors and has appeared in numerous popular dramas throughout his career.
His notable projects include Dasht, Najat, Bhai, Dum Pukht, Mann-o-Salwa, Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi, Parizaad, Bashar Momin, Dank and Bismil.
The actor is currently working on upcoming drama projects, including a serial with actor Nadia Afghan.
