A four-nation meeting involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Iran is being held in Tehran, with senior military and security officials from the three visiting countries participating in discussions aimed at regional peace and cooperation.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed the meeting, saying the proposal was put forward by Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, during his visit to Tehran and was subsequently accepted by Iran.
During a press briefing, Baghaei said Tehran was hosting the meeting with security and military officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in attendance.
He described the gathering as an important step towards advancing regional security and cooperation based on shared interests. The meeting is intended to support dialogue among regional countries on matters concerning peace and stability.
Baghaei confirmed that Iran agreed to the proposal following Field Marshal Asim Munir’s suggestion.
Meanwhile, Field Marshal Munir has reached Tehran on an official visit, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Qatari delegation visits Tehran for dialogue
Baghaei also confirmed that a Qatari delegation had visited Tehran the previous day as part of continuing efforts to promote dialogue and mediation among regional countries.
The visit comes amid broader diplomatic efforts focused on regional engagement and reducing tensions. Baghaei’s remarks placed the Qatari delegation’s visit alongside the four-nation meeting as part of ongoing regional dialogue.
Iran warns US as tensions continue
Alongside his comments on the diplomatic engagements, Baghaei issued a warning to the United States, saying Iran was closely monitoring all developments regardless of statements coming from Washington.
He said Iran was currently in a state of war and stressed that the country’s armed forces would not hesitate to take any measures necessary to defend the country.
“We will never hesitate to take any action necessary for our own defense,” Baghaei said, reiterating Tehran’s readiness to respond to developments it considers a threat to its security.
Regional responsibility for security
Dr Ali Bagheri, Deputy Secretary-General of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, also commented on the meeting, describing it as a significant step towards establishing a framework for peace and security in the region.
Bagheri said regional security should be ensured and guaranteed by the countries of the region themselves. He also warned that interference by external powers, particularly the United States, was detrimental to peace, security and stability.
His remarks underscored Tehran’s position that regional countries should play the leading role in addressing security challenges and shaping arrangements for stability.
The meeting in Tehran brings Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Iran together in a regional security initiative, while statements from Iranian officials highlight both the importance of diplomatic cooperation and Tehran’s concerns over external involvement.
