The suspect accused of killing orphaned teenager Waseem Abbas by running him over with a vehicle in a private housing society in Multan has been killed in a police encounter in Bahawalpur, according to a CCD spokesperson.
Tauqeer Nazir had escaped from CCD custody in Multan the previous night. He was killed during an exchange of fire after CCD personnel attempted to stop two suspicious individuals riding a motorcycle.
According to the CCD spokesperson, the Bahawalpur CCD team attempted to stop two suspicious motorcyclists at a checkpoint near the Northern Bypass. Instead of complying with the police signal, the suspects opened direct fire on the CCD City Circle team.
CCD personnel returned fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire during which one of the motorcycle riders was killed. The deceased was identified as Tauqeer Nazir, the suspect wanted in connection with the death of Waseem Abbas in Multan.
The spokesperson said Tauqeer was caught in the crossfire of his own accomplices. His companion escaped while continuing to fire at the CCD personnel, prompting teams to launch a pursuit to apprehend him.
Suspect escaped from CCD custody in Multan
Tauqeer had reportedly escaped from the custody of the CCD in Multan the previous night. According to officials, he was being transported while in police custody when the vehicle tyre went flat and the escape occurred.
An attempt was subsequently made to stop the suspects near the Northern Bypass in Bahawalpur, leading to the encounter.
A case has been registered in Bahawalpur following the encounter. According to the FIR, police attempted to stop individuals riding a motorcycle during a checkpoint operation on Jhangi Wala Road. However, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team, prompting personnel to return fire.
During the exchange of gunfire, one suspect was killed by bullets fired by his own accomplice, according to the FIR. The deceased was identified as Tauqeer, who was the prime suspect in the incident in Multan in which a child was run over by a car.
The case has been registered against the deceased suspect and his accomplice under serious charges, including murder, attempted murder and opening fire on police personnel.
CCD takes over investigation
The case involving the death of 15-year-old Waseem Abbas, who was struck and run over by a vehicle in a private housing society in Multan, was earlier handed over to the CCD.
The department was handed over the entire investigation into the child’s death. Tauqeer, who had been arrested in connection with the case before his escape, was also handed over to CCD authorities.
Following Tauqeer’s death, CCD teams are pursuing the accomplice who escaped during the Bahawalpur encounter. The suspect reportedly continued firing while fleeing the scene.
Meanwhile, raids are also being conducted to arrest Amjad, the second named suspect in the Multan child-death case, who remains at large.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and investigate both the circumstances surrounding Waseem Abbas’s death and the alleged escape from CCD custody.
