Lahore has ranked first among the world’s most polluted cities on Monday, with the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at more than 240 early in the morning, according to the Meteorological Department.
The department has forecast dry weather for the city, with no chance of rain. Meanwhile, Lahore’s minimum temperature was recorded at 19°C.
The AQI reading above 240 highlights the severity of Lahore’s air pollution, raising concerns about the health risks faced by residents.
However, around noon, the city had climbed down to the second spot after its AQI declined to 189, with the Indian city of Mumbai taking over the first spot with a 197 AQI.
Prolonged exposure to polluted air can affect respiratory health, particularly among children, older adults and people with existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
No rain expected, temperature drops to 19°C
According to the Meteorological Department, Lahore’s weather will remain dry today, with no rainfall expected.
The city’s minimum temperature was recorded at 19°C. With no rain forecast, residents continue to face polluted atmospheric conditions.
Health experts have advised Lahore residents to ensure they wear face masks when going outdoors to reduce their exposure to polluted air.
Residents are also advised to limit strenuous outdoor activities when pollution levels are high, particularly if they experience breathing difficulties or irritation.
As Lahore remains at the top of the global pollution rankings, air quality and its potential impact on public health remain key concerns for the city.
