Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have agreed to immediately implement their collective defence commitments and take measures to facilitate the rapid deployment of agreed military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia, according to a joint statement issued after an emergency meeting in Riyadh on Monday.
The Strategic-Political and Defense Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defense met on October 5 to discuss security developments and threats facing Saudi Arabia.
The three countries said the move would enhance military readiness, integration and their collective ability to confront and counter threats.
The parties affirmed that the security of each member is an integral part of the collective security of all three countries.
They said translating the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defense into practical measures would strengthen deterrence and demonstrate their commitment to defending their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Pakistan’s Nauman Mahmood appointed alliance secretary-general
The committee also appointed Pakistani Lt Gen (retd) General Nauman Mahmood as the first secretary-general of the Makkah Alliance for Defense for a three-year term.
The three parties welcomed his appointment and expressed confidence in his contribution to advancing the alliance and achieving its objectives.
Alliance condemns attacks targeting Saudi Arabia
The parties strongly condemned what they described as attempts to target Makkah and Madinah, as well as continuing attacks on cities and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan and Türkiye reaffirmed their rejection of any attack or threat against Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity.
The two countries also commended the readiness of the Saudi Armed Forces and praised what they described as their professionalism and competence in countering threats and attacks against the kingdom.
The committee reviewed the outcomes of political and military consultations held ahead of the meeting and approved the recommendations presented to it.
The alliance said it represents a commitment to collective defence and a unified position in confronting security threats.
