US President Donald Trump has said the United States will secure victory in the war with Iran “one way or another”, adding that major developments concerning Iran could be seen soon.
Addressing a ceremony at the White House, Trump said Iran’s economy was in a state of collapse and the country was facing difficult conditions. He said the United States had complete control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which large quantities of oil were being transported.
Trump said the amount of oil being taken through the Strait of Hormuz was higher than at any time in history. He also said Iran’s army, navy and air force had been completely destroyed, while inflation in the country had reached its highest level.
The US president also said the last American soldier had now left Iraq, calling the day an important one for the United States. He said the US had secured a decisive victory against Islamic State in Iraq and described the withdrawal of American forces as a victory for both the United States and Iraq.
Trump said 13 American soldiers were killed and 48 wounded during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. He added that several US troops lost their legs and arms there.
Unlike Afghanistan, Trump said, all American military equipment had been taken out of Iraq. He said the organised withdrawal of allied forces and military equipment from Iraq had been completed.
