Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud as tensions and insecurity continued to rise across the Middle East.
According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Araghchi and Faisal bin Farhan discussed the latest regional developments and growing insecurity, stressing the importance of continued cooperation and diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
During his conversation with the Saudi foreign minister, Araghchi and Faisal bin Farhan exchanged views on the latest developments and emphasised the need for regional cooperation.
The two officials stressed continued diplomatic efforts to prevent tensions from spreading and to help restore security and stability in the region.
The call comes as Iran, Israel and the United States remain locked in an escalating conflict, while fighting and insecurity have also intensified in Yemen.
Yemen fighting adds to regional tensions
The diplomatic contacts came as fighting between Iran-backed Houthi forces and Yemen’s internationally recognised government intensified.
The Houthis have controlled the capital, Sanaa, and large parts of Yemen since 2014.
The group has also been involved in repeated attacks and confrontations linked to the wider regional conflict, raising concerns over security around the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s key maritime chokepoints.
Reports of Houthi advances in coastal areas have added to concerns over the security of shipping routes and the potential impact on regional and global trade.
