Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has resigned from the national cricket team’s selection committee, according to sources.
Sources said Misbah submitted his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) amid turmoil in the national team following its poor performance on the England tour.
According to sources, Misbah decided to step down after he was not consulted over the players sent to England.
The resignation comes as the Pakistan team faces major changes following a disappointing Test series against England.
Sources said seven players were sent back to Pakistan following the team’s poor performance on the tour.
The players sent back reportedly include Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha and Imam-ul-Haq.
Major squad changes expected
Pakistan are expected to make further changes to their squad ahead of the third and final Test against England, with several young players likely to be called up.
According to sources, Salman Ali Agha is expected to be released from the Test squad on Monday, while Aamer Jamal is also likely to be released.
Salman, however, is expected to remain in England despite being released from the Test squad.
Meanwhile, Saim Ayub, Arafat Minhas, wicketkeeper Saad Masood, Saad Baig and Abdullah Fazal are expected to travel to England on Monday.
Sources said visa applications are also being submitted for Imran Junior and Razaullah, who could join the squad at a later stage.
England take unassailable lead
The squad reshuffle follows Pakistan’s heavy defeat to England in the second Test at Lord’s, which gave the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
England won the second Test by 194 runs.
England scored 290 in their first innings before Pakistan were dismissed for 110. The hosts then posted 389 in their second innings, setting Pakistan a challenging target that the visitors failed to chase.
With Pakistan trailing 2-0, team management is considering further changes ahead of the final Test to avoid a series whitewash.
Saim Ayub among expected additions
Young batter Saim Ayub is among the players expected to join the squad as Pakistan look to rebuild ahead of the final Test.
The expected changes come at a time of significant upheaval within the Pakistan cricket setup, with Misbah’s resignation adding to the uncertainty surrounding the team’s selection and management.
