US and Iranian officials said on Sunday they have agreed to a deal to end their war, halt the US blockade of Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, possibly leading to lower energy prices once oil shipments resume through the critical waterway.

“The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement that the United States and Iran have agreed on a peace deal that provides for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a framework for further negotiations. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese:

President Erdoğan thanked Pakistan for its mediation efforts that helped facilitate the peace agreement. He said the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar also played exemplary roles in advancing the agreement.
The agreement is a significant step toward promoting peace and stability in the region, President Erdoğan said, adding that the world had been waiting for such positive news of peace for a long time.
According to Erdoğan, the agreement could pave the way for lasting peace, security, and regional cooperation. He urged all parties to avoid provocative statements ahead of the formal signing of the agreement.
