The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, with the Home Department issuing formal orders in this regard.
The restrictions under Section 144 will remain in force from May 27 to June 2. Under the orders, the burning of animal heads and trotters at public places has been prohibited. Swimming and bathing in rivers, lakes, canals and dams have also been banned under Section 144.
The disposal of animal waste and offal into manholes, drains or canals has likewise been prohibited. The government has also banned the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals at places other than approved cattle markets.
Punjab Home Secretary imposed the restrictions under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
According to the Home Department spokesperson, the decision was taken for the protection of human lives, maintenance of peace and improvement of the environment.
The spokesperson said such activities posed a threat to public safety and public health and also caused anxiety among citizens.
No banned organisation will be allowed to collect sacrificial hides during Eid-ul-Azha. Only organisations registered with the Punjab Charity Commission will be permitted to receive sacrificial hides.
The administration and law-enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure implementation of the orders.
