Bangladesh completed a 2-0 clean sweep against Pakistan after securing a 78-run victory in the second Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam produced a match-winning display, taking six wickets in Pakistan’s second innings as the tourists were bowled out for 358 while chasing a target of 437. Pakistan resumed their resistance through Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha after early setbacks, but Bangladesh regained control through disciplined spin bowling on the final day.
Rizwan fought hard for his 94 while Salman Agha struck 71, adding a vital partnership to keep Pakistan’s hopes alive. However, Taijul Islam broke the stand before removing Hasan Ali, Sajid Khan and Khurram Shahzad to seal victory.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood scored 71 in the second innings, while Babar Azam made 47 before edging behind off Taijul Islam against the run of play.
Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim’s commanding 137 and Litton Das’s 69 guided Bangladesh to 390 in their second innings after taking a 46-run first-innings lead.
Taijul Islam finished with match figures that dismantled Pakistan’s batting order and helped Bangladesh register a historic series sweep on home soil.
The defeat marked Pakistan captain Shan Masood’s 12th loss in Test cricket leadership, increasing pressure on the side following another disappointing campaign.
