Privacy is expected to be a central theme when Apple unveils a new version of Siri at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported.
According to TechCrunch, the relaunch of Siri is widely viewed as Apple’s opportunity to restore its standing in the field of artificial intelligence. As part of the effort, company executives are expected to argue that Apple is taking a more privacy-focused approach than many other AI firms, Gurman said.
Apple is also reported to be preparing its first standalone Siri app, powered by Google Gemini and offering users a chatbot experience similar to ChatGPT. However, unlike rival chatbot services, the app is expected to place tighter limits on how long user information is stored and used.
Gurman said Siri could include a feature similar to that found in the Messages app, allowing users to automatically delete conversations after 30 days or one year, or retain them indefinitely.
He also suggested that Apple may be placing greater emphasis on privacy to offset Siri’s shortcomings compared with competing products, while the role of Google in handling some security functions may receive less attention.
