The federal government has decided to conduct the country’s first information technology census.
Sources divulged on Tuesday that the census will be carried out through joint cooperation between the Ministry of IT and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), with comprehensive data to be gathered on the digital skills of young people.
According to officials in the Ministry of IT, a nationwide record of the IT workforce will be compiled. The census will also collect data on freelancers, video editors and call centre employees, while the skills of call centre staff will be categorised.
The IT census will make reliable national data available for the first time. It will assist the government in policy-making and planning, and is expected to improve overseas employment opportunities for IT professionals.
