Russian President Vladimir Putin has met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow, voicing hope for peace in Iran amid ongoing regional tensions.
The meeting comes as diplomatic efforts continue over stalled Iran-US negotiations and wider Middle East instability.
During the meeting, Vladimir Putin said Russia hopes the Iranian people will overcome what he described as a “difficult period” and that peace will ultimately prevail.
He also stated that Moscow would continue to act in the interests of Iran and other countries in the region, according to Russian state media reports.
Putin reportedly said he had received a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader and praised the resilience of the Iranian people.
Araghchi’s regional diplomatic tour
Before arriving in Moscow, Abbas Araghchi visited Pakistan and Oman as part of wider diplomatic efforts linked to regional tensions, including the Strait of Hormuz and stalled Iran-US talks.
He said Pakistan had played a “very important role” in mediation efforts and described his consultations there as successful.
Araghchi also noted that Oman had taken a constructive stance during discussions and stressed the importance of coordination over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran reviews negotiation strategy
Speaking after his arrival in Russia, Araghchi said Iran had reviewed recent negotiation developments and assessed conditions required for talks to continue.
He also criticised what he called “unnecessary demands” from the United States, saying they had hindered progress in previous discussions.
Despite ongoing diplomatic contacts, formal Iran-US negotiations remain stalled.
Araghchi emphasised that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global issue.
He said Iran and Oman, as key coastal states, must maintain close coordination to safeguard shared interests in the strategic waterway.
