An independent United Nations probe has condemned recent strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, along with Tehran’s retaliatory attacks, calling them violations of the UN Charter.
The statement expressed deep shock over an airstrike that hit a girls’ school in Minab, claiming the lives of young students.
The UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran said the attacks violated international law by threatening Iran’s territorial integrity and political independence.
The probe specifically cited the strike on Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school, where most victims were aged 7 to 12, calling it a “shocking” violation of human rights.
A separate UN panel reported that more than 160 children have been killed since the escalation began.
Civilians caught in military campaign
The fact-finding mission warned that ordinary Iranians are now trapped between a large-scale military offensive and a government with a long-standing record of human rights abuses.
The probe noted that tens of thousands of protesters, detained since December 28, 2025, could be at heightened risk due to the strikes.
Among those at risk are inmates in Evin prison, including a jailed British couple who reported explosions and damage in their wing amid ongoing military operations.
Targeted killings of officials
The UN mission criticized the killing of dozens of Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during the airstrikes.
The statement emphasized that targeting officials is not an acceptable means of delivering justice under international law.
The independent investigation underscores the escalating humanitarian toll on civilians, particularly children, during the US-Israel-Iran military exchanges.
The report also highlights the risk of further violations as the conflict continues, stressing the need for accountability and adherence to international law.
