The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has announced that applications are now open for the 2027 Fulbright Student Program. Interested candidates must submit their applications through the USEFP website by April 1, 2026.
Established in 1950 through a collaboration between the United States and Pakistani governments, the USEFP has facilitated exchange programs for more than 9,000 Pakistanis and nearly 1,000 Americans. The Fulbright scholarship covers tuition, living expenses, insurance, and air travel for graduate studies in the United States.
The program evaluates a broad definition of merit, considering academic performance, test scores, leadership potential, and a commitment to contributing to Pakistan’s development. Funded jointly by the US and Pakistani governments, the scholarship is open to students from all fields, with particular encouragement for those pursuing studies in science, technology, artificial intelligence, trade, economics, and natural resource management. Clinical medicine is excluded, though non-clinical public health applications are accepted.
Applications can be submitted via the official portal at www.usefp.org
US Embassy Islamabad Director of Public Engagement Heidi Smith highlighted the program’s long-standing impact, saying, “The Fulbright Program is one of the United States’ most enduring exchange initiatives. It invests in Pakistan’s next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers. Fulbright graduates from Pakistan are transforming communities and addressing critical challenges.”
She added, “Cultural and educational exchanges are vital in promoting shared prosperity, particularly as the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its independence.”
Since 2005, over 3,000 Pakistani students have received Fulbright scholarships for graduate studies in the US. Alumni continue to collaborate with American research institutions, businesses, and technology hubs, reflecting US expertise and strengthening the US-Pakistan partnership.
USEFP Executive Director Dr. Peter Moran encouraged students nationwide to apply, stating, “For 75 years, the Fulbright Program in Pakistan has nurtured talent and fostered connections with US institutions known for academic excellence and research opportunities. These partnerships address global challenges and promote prosperity for both nations
