According to the Meteorological Department, there is a strong likelihood of rainfall during the scheduled match hours, raising concerns for fans and teams alike.
Weather officials have predicted thunderstorms in Colombo on Sunday, with intermittent rain and gusty winds expected throughout the day.
The forecast shows a 55 to 60% chance of rain in the afternoon and evening, while reports indicate a 55 to 59% probability of rainfall between 1:30pm and 6:30pm — directly overlapping with match timings.
The maximum temperature is expected to reach 31°C, while the minimum may drop to 22°C.
Additionally, there is an 80% chance of rain in Colombo on Feb 15, further intensifying concerns around the high-voltage encounter.
The blockbuster Pakistan-India match is set to be played at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Sri Lanka’s unpredictable weather has once again cast uncertainty over a major cricket event. Earlier, Pakistan also encountered unfavorable weather during their warm-up matches.
Under the tournament’s current points system, if the match is washed out due to rain, both teams will receive one point each.
Weather advisory
Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology has issued a special weather advisory, warning that a low-pressure system is likely to develop over the southeastern Bay of Bengal around February 15.
The notice was released at 10:30am today by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, which urged the public to stay alert and regularly follow updated forecasts and official bulletins.
The advisory comes at a crucial time, as Sri Lanka prepares to host two major ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches on February 15 and 16.
Teams prepare despite weather uncertainty
