Pakistan and the United States reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in counter-terrorism and economic engagement during a high-level meeting in the federal capital.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with US Deputy Secretary of State John Mark Pommersheim, with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker also participating in the discussions.
According to a spokesperson for the US Embassy, the meeting centered on counter-terrorism efforts and advancing common security priorities between the two countries.
Both sides discussed ongoing collaboration to address security challenges and strengthen coordination in tackling terrorism.
The US side appreciated Pakistan’s partnership in preventing illegal migration, acknowledging Islamabad’s efforts in this area.
Strengthening economic, energy ties
The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation to attract US investment in Pakistan’s energy sector.
The discussions highlighted the importance of creating a stable and business-friendly environment to enhance economic engagement.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for US businesses operating in the country.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s role in counter-terrorism and regional stability has received renewed global recognition, with the United States describing Islamabad as an important partner in the region.
US Assistant Secretary of State Paul Kapoor emphasized that cooperation between the two countries is expanding across multiple strategic sectors.
Paul Kapoor stated that collaboration between the United States and Pakistan in the mineral resources sector is steadily advancing.
He noted that bilateral trade in energy and agriculture is also progressing rapidly, reflecting stronger economic ties between the two countries.
According to officials, these developments signal a broader effort to deepen economic engagement alongside security cooperation.
Counter-terrorism cooperation
Kapoor underscored that counter-terrorism cooperation between Washington and Islamabad is playing a significant role in helping Pakistan address internal and cross-border security threats.
He said ongoing coordination has enabled Pakistan to deal more effectively with emerging security challenges.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump and other senior American officials also acknowledged Pakistan’s effective role in combating terrorism.
