ISLAMABAD (DI NEWS) : The Government of Pakistan has officially appointed Mr. Tahir Farooq, Editor of Daily Ittehad, Peshawar, as a member of the Press Council of Pakistan in exercise of powers conferred under Section 7(2) of the Press Council of Pakistan Ordinance 2002
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Tahir Farooq has been nominated by the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) to serve on the Press Council of Pakistan. He will hold office for the remaining term of the late Mr. Aamer Mehmood, extending up to August 2, 2027, with immediate effect from the date of issuance of the notification.
The notification further states that Mr. Tahir Farooq will serve in an honorary capacity and will not be entitled to any salary, except reimbursement of out of pocket expenses as prescribed under the relevant provisions of the ordinance
Mr. Tahir Farooq is a senior journalist and media leader with decades of experience in Pakistan’s print and digital media landscape. His appointment is seen as a recognition of his long standing contributions to journalism, media ethics, and the promotion of responsible reporting in the country.
The Press Council of Pakistan plays a vital role in maintaining professional standards of journalism, safeguarding press freedom, and addressing public complaints against the press. The inclusion of experienced editors and media professionals is aimed at strengthening institutional oversight and credibility.
