WhatsApp has released a new beta update for Android through the Google Play Beta program, signaling the upcoming addition of a ‘thinking mode’ for its in-app AI assistant, Meta AI.
The feature is expected to provide more detailed, context-aware responses and enhance the assistant’s reasoning capabilities.
Currently, the beta does not include any user-facing features, but it lays the foundation for a major upgrade to Meta AI, which until now has been relatively basic compared to other AI assistants.
The update suggests that Meta AI will support two modes of interaction: fast and thinking. Fast mode will prioritize quick answers to simple questions, while thinking mode is designed for situations where accuracy and depth are more important, taking extra time to analyse context and deliver structured responses.
Users will reportedly be able to switch between the two modes via a toggle in the chat interface, with a thunder icon representing fast mode and a light bulb icon indicating thinking mode.
Once launched, the thinking mode could significantly improve the AI assistant’s usefulness, allowing it to handle complex queries with more sophistication and precision.
