The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Thursday approved a reduction in the basic electricity tariff by 62 paisa per unit.
Nepra’s annual review of consumer tariffs, covering January to December 2025, has set the national average electricity tariff for 2026 at Rs 33.38 per unit, down from Rs 34 per unit.
The regulator has sent its decision to the government for final approval and filing for a uniform tariff across the country.
The total financial requirement of electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) for 2026 is estimated at Rs 3,379 billion.
FCA adjustment and consumer benefits
In addition to the basic tariff reduction, electricity costs under the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for November have been reduced by 93 paisa per unit. Consumers will see this benefit reflected in January bills.
The uniform tariff ensures that all DISCO customers, including K-Electric users, will enjoy the reduction. However, the reduction does not apply to Lifeline and Protected category consumers or electric vehicle charging stations.
