The Islamabad court declared on Friday Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mirza Shahzad Akbar a proclaimed offender, issuing an arrest warrant in a case registered over his statements on X (formerly Twitter).
The decision comes after Akbar failed to appear in court multiple times despite repeated summons.
Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Abbas Shah issued a written order formally declaring Shahzad Akbar a proclaimed offender.
The court also ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against him in connection with the case.
Background of the case
The case against Mirza Shahzad Akbar was registered by the National Counter Terrorism and Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in July 2025. It revolves around controversial statements he allegedly made on Twitter.
Authorities have submitted the challan of the case to the court, a procedural step in which the details of the investigation and charges are formally presented.
Mirza Shahzad Akbar’s repeated failure to appear in court prompted the judiciary to declare him a proclaimed offender.
The declaration allows authorities to initiate steps to enforce his arrest in accordance with the law.
