Apple is reportedly setting its sights on delivering a more stable, polished experience with iOS 27, focusing on performance and quality improvements alongside new AI-powered features.
The update follows a wave of user complaints regarding iOS 26 issues.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning an update cycle similar to Mac OS X Snow Leopard (2009)—a release known for refining the core system rather than introducing flashy new features.
The company is applying the same strategy across iOS 27, macOS 27, and iPadOS 27, prioritizing bug fixes, code cleanup, system optimization, and overall software stability.
Fallout from iOS 26 issues
Apple’s previous major updates—iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26—introduced dramatic changes such as Liquid Glass and the first phase of Apple Intelligence.
However, the rollout did not go smoothly. Users reported:
Battery drain
Overheating
Frequent app crashes
System lag
UI changes (especially in Safari) that felt like regressions
Apple had to introduce a Liquid Glass toggle in iOS 26.1 and later updates to address user dissatisfaction. The company is currently refining the feature further in the iOS 26.2 beta.
Major AI enhancements planned for iOS 27
Despite the stability-focused approach, iOS 27 will still bring several new AI features. Apple is working to expand AI integration across apps and services, including:
Apple’s partnership with Google will reportedly bring Gemini AI technology to enhance Siri. The upgrade is expected to arrive earlier, with iOS 26.4 next year.
Apple is developing an AI agent for the Health app, likely tied to a Health+ subscription tier.
The company is also building its own AI search system to compete with ChatGPT and Perplexity.
Apple is testing an internal chatbot named Veritas, though the AI’s name—Latin for “truth”—has drawn ironic attention.
