The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced the creation of a special police unit to counter terrorism across the province.
A high-level meeting on the special branch took place at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi. During the meeting, KP CM has approved the establishment of the special branch as a formal, specialised and separate cadre, along with the construction of new buildings for the branch across the province.
The chief minister said that the special branch has received more than Rs5.26 billion, which will cover improvements in infrastructure, vehicles, technical equipment and advanced technology. A total of 1,221 new posts for the Special Branch also receive approval.
The meeting informed the KP CM that, during 2025, the special branch has defused two suicide jackets, 32 IEDs, 70 rocket shells and 228 hand grenades.
CM said that the special branch will operate on modern lines in accordance with counter-terrorism requirements. He said that the police serve as a key pillar in the fight against terrorism and that the provincial government provides all necessary resources to strengthen the special branch’s capacity.
